Summertime and the Sangria is Easy

Summer is a great time to get your cocktail on!

From the deck to the dinner table, one of my favorite drinks to cool down with when the weather gets hot is sangria. It's not only great for intimate dinners, but it's also a knock out for a big parties.

Sangria is fresh and fun with enough kick to ensure your night gets just a little silly (be responsible when getting silly).  The refreshing flavors are perfect for any occasion and any crowd (over the age of 21), not to mention it's super easy.  Keep the night simple with some light cupcakes and you'll be ready to entertain.

After the jump you'll get a look at one of my FAVORITE sangria recipes, with a fruity twist.

Raspberry Grapefruit Sangria recipe
Ingredients:
1 bottle merlot or cabernet wine (don't worry about using the good stuff, lots of flavors will be blending)
6 oz. raspberry liqueur or Chambord
4 oz. brandy
1 pint fresh raspberries
1 grapefruit, sectioned, with pith removed
1 lime, thinly sliced
8 oz. grapefruit juice
6 oz. orange juice
6 oz. club soda
Several sprigs of mint for garnish

Directions:
In a large bowl or pitcher, combine wine, liqueur, brandy, half of the fruit and mint. Muddle well. Add in juices and let the mix chill for at least one hour in the refrigerator. Strain  and add club soda.
Put it over plenty of ice when serving and garnish with remaining fresh fruit and sprigs of mint.

Red sangria is a bit of a risk, especially if you're having a P. Diddy-esque white party, so here is a great white sangria recipe that is sure to please.  I've made it a few times and it's always been a big hit.

  1. Yummo! P.S. If you enjoy meat and get to Fogo De Chao the white sangria is to die for! The fresh friut in it is perfect!
